Hey Canyons Family:

Well, it is on! We have now received $8,538 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, eclipsing our goal of $7,000 for 2021. Thank you for giving so sacrificially! The LORD will multiply these gifts and each penny will have an eternal impact. So... we will prepare for the Pastor's Hotdog Eating Contest following the 11:00 service, and live-streamed, on January 2. Also, the pastors will be out sick on January 3.

We are praying for the LORD to raise up some Canyons folks (English or Spanish speaking) to help meet these ministry needs: We are blessed to partner with other Salt Lake Baptist Association churches in the ministry of the Concern Center, to help in sharing food with those in need and grasping that opportunity to help them know Christ and His love for them. The Director of the Concern Center is our very own Sonia Gutierrez and she is assisted by her husband, Pastor Rafael Gutierrez. The Concern Center currently has  two key needs: (1) Someone is needed to help pick up food donations from three Chick-fil-A stores that run from Lehi to Sandy on Mondays and Thursdays. It is about a two-hour round trip to pickup donations and deliver them to the Concern Center, and then (2) Volunteers are needed at the Concern Center for Monday and Saturday mornings. If you would be able to help in any way or if you should have questions, please reach out to Sonia by calling 801-573-0098, emailing at soniagtz321@gmail.com or Pastor Rafael by calling 801-891-6283 or by emailing at rafaelgut1963@gmail.com.

Finally, the pastors and staff of Canyons would like to wish our entire church family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! We love you all and it is a great joy to serve and worship together. The next edition of the ReCharge will come out on or near January 5. See you FRI for the Christmas Eve service and again on SUN, DEC 26, at regular time.

In His Service,
Pastor Jason DeFoor (D4)

Missions Monday:

From the Heart of the Rockies to the Ends of the Earth…

Life in Turkmenistan causes many to feel hopeless and restless. Political and social stressors play a role, but a lack of basic necessities is the driving force. To find a way to support their families, Turkmen will move to places outside of Turkmenistan. Some who move abroad are able hear the Gospel for the first time.
“People are coming to faith,” says Anthony Bingham*, an IMB worker in Central Asia. “But coming to faith means you are signing up for a rougher life.” Persecution is rampant in Turkmenistan and people who identify themselves as believers in Jesus risk losing jobs, being rejected by family, and facing harassment and beatings by police.
THE COOPERATIVE PROGRAM (CP) is the financial fuel for reaching every person for Jesus Christ in every town, every city, every state, and every nation. Your support of both CP and THE LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING places missionaries in strategic locations around the world to share the Gospel with not only locals, but also guests in those places.
Pray for IMB workers in Central Asia to have opportunities to share the Gospel with Turkmen and that those living abroad will hear the Gospel and return home to build strong families and churches.

Past Sunday's Sermon
Passage: Matthew 2:13-23
Theological Focus: Herod’s precious was power; Joseph’s precious was Jesus.
Sermon Purpose: To lead the congregation to adore Jesus.
Application: Adore Him.

The harmony of Scripture is incredible. Here's a fun tidbit from our passage yesterday. Matthew 2:19-20 parallels Exodus 4:19-20. Take a look:

Matthew 2:19-21
"...an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
'Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel,
because those who intended to kill the child are dead.'
So he got up, took the child and his mother,
and entered the land of Israel."

Exodus 4:19-20
"Now in Midian the Lord told Moses,
'Return to Egypt,
for all the men who wanted to kill you are dead.'
So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey,
and returned to the land of Egypt."

This is only a small example of God's coordination in the writing of His Word. He is truly amazing!

Blessings and Merry Christmas!
Pastor Justin
